Description
Dahlia Vancouver produces blue-violet flowers that have long petals that are gently cupped and tipped with white. As such Dahlia Vancouver is a very popular variety. In addition the flowers can grow up to 15cms in diameter and will make a statement in any garden position. Each plant will produce dozens of flowers throughout the summer season and up until the first frosts.
Cultivation instruction
Plant Inside: Dahlia tubers can be started off indoors from early January but must be protected from temperatures below 5C. Once the fear of frosts have passed they can be planted outside
Plant outside: From Late March on wards, when the signs of frost have passed the dahlia tuber can be planted outside. Plant tubers into well prepared soils in late March to April. Soils should be cultivated to a depth of 20cms to allow good root development. Plant tubers in fertile soils with 5cms of soil above the top of the tuber. Protect early growth from slugs and snails and remove dead heads during the flowering season to get the best from them. Regularly feed during the growing season with foods such as are well rotted manures, Tomato feed and bone meal will provide food for continued flowering.
