Cultivation Instructions:
Multi-headed tulips are a superb group of tulips and they do produce between 2 and 6 flowers per stem. Tulip Multiflora Antoinette will grow really well in containers, large pots and when used in bedding displays. Tulips perform best when planted into fertile free draining soils in semi shade to full sun. Before planting cultivate soils to a depth of 20cms and plant bulbs 15cms deep and 10cms apart. In heavier soils add grit and/or well rotted humus matter to help with drainage. Tulips are best planted when the soil starts to cool down which thus leads to many planting guides showing October as the ideal month for planting tulips. This is an ideal planting time, but we have found that planting tulips in September or November is not a problem for performance in the spring.
Plant tulips anytime from Late September through to early December, they prefer to be planted into soils that are cooling down after the summer.
Care tips:
Plant Multi-headed may flowering tulips with other late flowering varieties such as camassia and Alliums.
Remember to lift tulips at the end of the season. Only the big bulbs should be kept to flower for the following year. Tulips are often treated as annuals as flowering performance the following year is never as good.
Lifted bulbs should be kept in a cool dark place for the summer before re-planting in the Autumn period.
