Description
You will not be disappointed when you see the flowers of Burgundy in full bloom. Lily flowering tulip Burgundy has flowers that are a deep purplish violet and stand erect on strong stems. This is one of the tallest of this group and they really do stand out in the garden or containers.
Cultivation Instructions:
Lily flowering tulips are one of the latest tulips to flower in the spring. A very elegant group of bulbs which are generally tall and eye catching. The flowers are gracefully pointed with re-flexed petals. Tall stem tulips are also excellent for formal bedding schemes and for using as a cut flower. They also work really well in larger containers being a great focal display. Before planting cultivate soils to a depth of 20cms and plant bulbs 15cms deep and 10cm apart. In heavier soils add grit and/or well rotted humus matter to help with drainage. Tulips have become our most popular group for sales as you are able to find all the colours you may need. They also provide a season of flowering from February right through to May.
Plant tulips anytime from Late September through to early December, they prefer to be planted into soils that are cooling down after the summer.
Care tips:
Plant lily flowering tulips with other late flowering varieties such as Scented daffodils and Alliums.
Remember to lift tulips at the end of the season. Only the big bulbs should be kept to flower for the following year.
Tulips are often treated as annuals as flowering performance the following year is never as good.
