Crocus chrysanthus mixed

Early flowering crocus for the spring garden

A superb mixture of dwarf crocus taken from the chrysanthus and specie crocus mixed that we offer. Specie crocus mixed are available in a large range of colours and this mixture will provide a great colour range.

Growing Instructions

Specie crocus will bring early colour to the garden or containers. Dwarf or specie crocus are a little smaller than the dutch/large flowering crocus and also flower earlier in January/February.  These crocus are some of the earliest bulbs to flower and as such they welcome in the spring after those long winter days.

Plant in soils that are well drained. Cultivate soils to a depth of 10cms and plant bulbs 5-8cms deep and 5-8cms apart. In heavy soils such as clay add grit or humus matter to help with drainage and plant slightly shallower at 6cms deep. In sandy soils add organic matter to help with fertility. They will naturalise and spread really well. After a number of years they may need to be divided. Dig them up when the flowers have died back and re-plant farther apart.

They are happy in full sun or semi shade in the borders, rockeries, under trees and shrubs and also look superb in containers. Crocus like all bulbs need to be fed so if the soil is not fertile enough use bone meal or similar to feed during the leaf and flower stage.

Ideal foods are well rotted manures, grass clippings, tomato feed and bone meal.
