Description
Scarlet Pearl has flowers with a wonderful deep red colour. This is a superb hyacinth and the stunning flowers of Scarlet Pearl are also very fragrant. New to Directbulbs last year proving to be very popular.
Cultivation Instructions:
Hyacinths for early flowering can be planted from early September and planted in bowls or pots with the tips showing (we do send out full growing instructions with all our bulbs).
When bowls are used for indoor growing it is better to use bulb fibre. After planting put in a dark place – pots with drainage can be put outside and covered with 3-4″ of compost. Bring the bulbs indoors in early December when the tips of the flowers are 1.5-2cms above the neck of the bulb. They will flower over the Christmas period onwards.
In the subsequent years, prepared hyacinths can be grown outside in borders and containers. Grow close to the house so that you can enjoy their fragrance as you pass them by. Cultivate soils well before planting and add humus matter to poor soils. Choose in well-drained, moderately fertile soil in the sunny areas of the garden. Fully hardy in the ground, but can be frost tender in containers if you have a cold garden or we experience a very cold winter. Keep bulbs well fed during the leaf and flower stage, let the leaves die back, remove the dead foliage and flowers and mulch well.
Care tips:
Indoor growing bulbs but they will need a cool period in a dark place to instigate root growth. Easy to grow if instructions are followed.
Grow with other fragrant varieties such as Narcissi Bridal crown
Ideal foods are well rotted manures, tomato feed and bone meal.
