Description
Prepared Hyacinth Blue Pearl is a superb deep blue hyacinth which is ideal for growing in pots or bowls or hyacinth glasses. Hyacinth Blue Pearl is amongst one of the most popular bulbs for indoor flowers and if planted in early September they will flower in time for Christmas making them ideal to give as a gift or just bring some fragrance and colour to the house in the winter.
Cultivation Instructions:
Hyacinths for early flowering can be planted from early September and planted in bowls or pots with the tips showing (we do send out full growing instructions with all our bulbs). When bowls are used for indoor growing it is preferred that you use bulb fibre. After planting put in a dark place – pots with drainage can be put outside and covered with 3-4″ of compost. The bulbs can then be brought indoors in early December when the tips of the flowers are 1.5-2cms above the neck of the bulb. They will flower over the Christmas period onwards.
In subsequent year prepared hyacinths can be grown outside in borders and containers. Grow close to the house so that you can enjoy their fragrance as you pass them by. Cultivate soils well before planting and add humus matter to poor soils. Grow in well-drained, moderately fertile soil in the sunny areas of the garden. Fully hardy in the ground, but can be frost tender in containers if you have a cold garden or we experience a very cold winter. Keep bulbs well fed during the leaf and flower stage, let the leaves die back, remove the dead foliage and flowers and mulch well.
Care tips:
Indoor growing bulbs but they will need a cool period in a dark place to instigate root growth. Easy to grow if instructions are followed.
Grow with other fragrant varieties such as Narcissi Bridal crown
Ideal foods are well rotted manures, tomato feed and bone meal.
