Description
Fritillaria olivieri has wonderful flowers that are bell shaped, green with a brown stripe. A wonderful dwarf variety fritillaria olivieri grows to just 38cm. It will naturalise and increase very quickly when left undisturbed.
Fritillarias are an extensive group of varieties and are very easy to grow. They will naturalise extremely well and are thus ideal to plant in many areas of the garden.
Cultivation Instructions
Before planting cultivate the soil to a depth of 25-30cm and ensure soils are well drained and do not dry out in the summer. In heavy soils add grit and or humus matter to help with drainage. In sandy soils ensure they do not dry out especially in the first year. They perform best when planted in well-drained, humus rich soil. Can be left undisturbed for a number of years. Add some grit or organic matter to the soil to help aid drainage.
Care tips:
Grow in the sunny areas of the garden, ideally not in direct sunlight. Once they have finished flowering allow the stems to die back and remove. them.
Feed regularly during the growing season with high potash and phosphate foods such as bone meal or tomato food.
