Cultivation instructions
Double daffodils are a very popular group with many of them being highly fragrant. They prefer soils that are well drained and fertile in semi to full sun. Cultivate soils to a depth of 15cms before planting and in poor soils add well rotted humus matter to provide the food. Plant the bulbs with the pointy bit upwards 15cms deep and 10cms apart, in heavy soils add a handful of grit to the hole before planting. Double daffodils work really well when planted in containers or the garden. Daffodils naturalise really well so after a few years they may need to be lifted and separated before re-planting. Lifting daffodils is best done when the leaves have turned brown, bulbs can be left in a cool spot in a shed or similar before planting back in the Autumn. Alternatively they can be lifted and re planted straight away.
Care tips:
They can be grown in containers as well as in the garden and can be left to naturalise for a number of years. Double daffodils work really well when grown with hyacinth and muscari for instance.
Feed during the leaf and flower stage to ensure the bulbs are fully nourished to provide the following years growth.
Do not cut off or tie up the leaves because this will not allow the bulbs to take in nutrients for the following years growth.
