Dahlia Purple Gem

Description

Purple Gem is an excellent cactus dahlia with gorgeous spikey flowers, which are purple and a slight hint of yellow at the centre. This variety has stood the test of time and is still as popular as ever. Dahlias provide ideal colour for any garden and are easy to grow. Just ensure you protect the young shoots from slugs and snails. Best started off indoors from January to March and planted out after the fear of frost has passed which is nomally late March to April. Alternatively store in a cool frost free enviroment and plant direct into the garden from the end of March onwards. Cultivate soils to a depth of 20cms and plant tubers 5cms below the soil level.

Soil type: Free draining, humus rich soils preferred. In poor soils add humus well rotted humus matter after planting
