Cultivation Instructions
Indoor Planting: Grow in containers indoors using a good indoor compost. They are however better suited for growing outside.
Outdoor Planting: Plant outside from February on wards in soils that are not waterlogged. Cultivate the soil to a depth of 20-25cms and plant bulbs so that the tip is just above the soil surface. In heavy soils add plenty of humus matter and or grit to help with drainage. They enjoy full sun, but will also perform well in the semi-shaded areas of the garden. Leave undisturbed to naturalise for a number of years in the garden.
Pots/Containers: An ideal variety to grow in containers. Plant as above in a good potting compost that has plenty of grit for drainage. The flower heads are quite heavy so use as big a container as possible which will also allow good root growth..
Care tips:
Plant in areas that are not exposed to the worst of the elements and in soils that have not been freshly manured. Regularly feed during the growing season.
Work well with companion plants such as Nerine and amarine.
Keep well fed with foods such as rotted manure, Tomato feed and bone meal. If possible mulch borders over the winter.
