Arum Creticum is better known for the striking leaves that they produce. Arum creticum has superb pale yellow to deep lemon spathes. It is a very good performer in woodland areas. The spathe of Arum Creticum will open purplish or green. They are very hardy and as such very useful in the colder parts of the garden as well. All though they look strange they are easy to grow and can be left undisturbed for many years.

Cultivation instructions:

Arums have very striking foliage and are ideal for growing in the shadier, colder areas of the garden. Can be grown in containers but do not let the soil dry out. They prefer to be grown in humus rich soils in the shadier areas of the garden. In soils that are not rich in humus matter use well rotted compost to add to the soil when cultivating. Cultivate the soil to a depth of 15cms and plant as per the growing information below. Keep soils moist in the first year to encourage good root development. They will grow very well with things such as anemone blandas and trilliums.

Using bulb starter or root grow when first planting will help them to establish for future years flowering.

Soil type: All free draining fertile soils. They like humus rich soils that do not dry out.

Aspect: Shadier areas of the garden. They will grow in semi shade especially when the soil remains damp.

Scented: No significant scent.

Planting Depth: 8cms

Spacing: 10cms apart.
