Description
Allium atropurpureum is a very stunning allium that grows to 75cms tall and as such is often used as a cut flower. Alliums are superb for attracting bees and butterflies to the garden and will naturalise very well in most UK soils that are well drained.
During the leaf and flower stage feed with bone meal or similar to ensure future good growth and performance. Alliums look really good when grown with early flowering perennials.
Cultivation Instructions
Alliums perform very well with early flowering perennials and are also popular with bees and butterflies. Alliums will naturalise very well in most well drained soils. This variety will with stand some water logging of the soil. Cultivate soils to a depth of 20cms and plant bulbs with the pointy bit facing upwards. Bulbs should be planted at a depth of 15cms.
Feed bulbs with bone meal or similar during the flowering period to ensure they remain health for years to come. Regularly feed during the growing season with foods such as well rotted manures, tomato feed and bone meal.
Care tips:
Keep well fed during the growing season and if possible mulch borders with well rotted manure or compost over the winter.
